Job Description On behalf of our client, an leading engineering company specializing in production and installation of food processing equipment in the agriculture industry, we are now seeking candidates for. Under the direct supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Designer will hold primary responsibility for the generation of the fabrication release package. The Mechanical Designer also provides design support for the Project Engineer in order to produce a functioning engineered process system which encompasses all or part of the design, build, installation and start-up process. As a member of the engineering team, the Mechanical Designer will support the profit goals of the Company by placing those goals foremost when interacting with others. The Mechanical Designer will build an environment that fosters teamwork and task completion through staff communication and coordination with necessary departments of other departments on safety standards, quality control standards, product line development, coordination of engineering, production and project schedules and promotion of the Company image

Essential Duties:

Project Engineer/ Designer Hand Off:
* Review basic design parameters and budgets with the Project Engineer
* Fully understand what the design criteria is for the specific assembly; ensure specific documentation is filed in the job folder and locate design criteria as necessary; ensure Electronic files are filed and archived if necessary.
* Review detailing time line and establish deadlines
* Review detailing hour budgets, develop a plan to complete the work within budget to established standards; alert project engineer if you cannot complete the project within budget, prior to exceeding budget
* Designer will work under the supervision of the Project Engineer for specific job, during design phase

Pre- Release Process: Purchasing and Machine Shop
* 1st priority upon receiving a job: issue the purchase requisition for long lead items, the 'Pre-Release'within 24 hours of receiving the design project, and prior to completion of the detailed shop drawings
* 2nd priority upon receiving a job: issue the Shop Machine Package within 3 days of receiving the design project (BOM is not required unless non standard inventory material is required)
* Inform Project Engineer and Engineering Manager via email if long lead items cannot be specified (repeatedly) until all issues are resolved
* As the design progresses, pre order them new purchase items as soon as they are defined to prevent scheduling issues in the shop if new items are added to the project

Layout Verification Process: Form Fit Function Blocks
* Provide Project Engineer with updated machine assembly blocks that are inserted into the top level system layout for verification
* Designer is to ensure that the Form Fit Function block is approved by Project Engineer prior to final detailing

Design Drawing Process:
* Utilize the Company data base to obtain new drawing numbers and use existing naming conventions as they apply
* Generate correct Assembly views, Weldment views, and piece part details for the shop release package
* Generate the laser release package; update the ?HMI_Laser.dwg? block with the current rev date
* Generate the machine release package with parts correct dimensions, tolerances
* Generate the fabrication release package with correct dimensions, ballooning
* Generate the BOM with ITEM numbers that match the drawings
* Specify and request new inventory item part numbers, ensure accuracy and request naming changes for inventory items that do not describe the correct part
* Ensure that all current design files are updated daily and stored in proper location
* Update and close electronic design files and clean up network directories per existing format
* Update old BOM?s or designs as they are released to utilize the current standard, components, or designs
* Update the final BOM release to include all items for the project; highlight pre-released items to prevent double ordering
* Update the product line manager of any design changes that should be incorporated into the current standard

Design Capabilities:
* Utilize standard Company inventory items when designing equipment, and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of standard versus non-standard inventory items
* Problem solve and finalize designs to conform to Company standard or create a new Company standard design
* Develop flat pattern layouts for complex sheet metal parts in both 2d and 3d environments
* Increase shop productivity by designing location tabs in sheet metal parts, making parts symmetric, or designing simple parts to assist the fabricator in the construction process
* Size load bearing members and layout frames and structures from existing design standards and apply the existing design approach to new similar assemblies
* Ask necessary design questions to solve the problems, and make sound decisions based on information provided
* Work in a team environment; incorporate design improvements and ideas generated from multiple sources
* Work on more than one machine at a time, shifting between them with minimal loss of productivity
* Justify a design approach by citing previous applications, conditions, or a combination of both
* Define issues that hold up or interfere with the design process and resolve with Engineering Manager as soon as possible

Product Line Development & Electronic Design Guides:
* Utilize existing EDG and binders to develop equipment per existing design standards.
* As assigned by Engineering Manager, function as Product Line Manager for Company standards

Additional Duties:
* Complete Time Cards; allocate time to the correct Job Number, updating daily
* Keep Flex time schedule updated, informing Engineering Manager of changes
* Manage and archive Engineering Department data
* Abide by shop safety rules in specific areas
* Follow job progress in fabrication and assembly by periodically inspecting shop work
* Set clear objectives and priorities and allocate resources to accomplish goals ahead of schedule
* Identify and define problems to reach sound conclusions
* Show initiative to accept responsibility
Candidate Requirements Ideal candidate will have the following skills, experience and/or education. A relevant combination of same will be considered:

* Associates degree in Drafting Technology or equivalent from two-year college/ certificate program; major course work in engineering
* 3+ years demonstrated related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of the two
* Two years experience in mechanical design field, and design engineering responsibilities
* Experience in sheet metal forming, machine shop operations, and welding/fabrication processes
* Possess excellent PC skills: intermediate experience with Microsoft Word, advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and mechanically designed software programs, including ability to quickly learn specific software
* CAD experience with Auto Cad and Solidworks, including ability to work in 2D and 3D environment
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret Engineering journals and mechanical drawings
* Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively present information to management, co-workers, and business contacts
* Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, accurate grammar and professional business correspondence
* Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
* Ability to apply math skills to practical situations; fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions
* Ability to identify and define problems in order to reach sound conclusions
* Ability to make independent decisions

Work Environment:
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and occasionally be exposed to risk of electrical shock

Travel:
* This job requires minimal routine travel within close proximity to regularly assigned work location
